Update: Aug 2010 I've lived on the Central Coast of California for the past 41 years. Now, though, I live in Cayucos, population almost 3,000. My wife, Donita, and I are about 100 yards from the Pacific Ocean and so surfing is a large part of our life. We are both members of the Estero Bay Surf Club and continue to compete, just like the days of "62," only the drive is much easier. We have a blended family of five children, one of which, Lindsey, gave me a new granddaughter. I teach History at Laguna Middle School in San Luis Obispo. I am the Boys' Athletic Director and coach basketball. Retirement is coming but probably not for two or three years. When it hits, I hope to do a little writing combined with some photography. Hopefully, I have a story to tell. In the mean time, life is good. We savor sunsets, walks on the pier, and are happy. Original Post: I married Donita Smith in 1998 and now live in Cayucos, CA about a hundred yards from the beach. I surf as often as possible and still compete as an Estero Bay Surf Club member. My son, Tim, is a mechanic in San Luis Obispo, and my daughter, Lindsey, graduated from U.C. Santa Cruz in marine biology, married, and is now living in San Diego. I have three step children including Katherine, married and living in Wales, Corie, living in Reno, Nevada, and Joseph, who graduated from A.F.I. and now produces movies in Hollywood. I am still teaching in San Luis Obispo at Laguna Middle School while Donita is a special education teacher in Arroyo Grande. I have been coaching basketball and baseball for the past 30 years +. Our summers allow us to travel to Hawaii, Mexico, and recently Great Britain to see our daughter. We even surfed in Wales. Where ever there is waves, we are likely to go. We have a 29 foot Erikson sailboat that gets cleaned and repaired more than sees the open sea, but is ready to sail to San Simeon or Cojo. Living on the Central Coast is great. There is nowhere we would rather be. |
