Update 9/19/07: I was appointed to the school board for Alhambra Unified School District in January, 2007 for a 2 year term. This is keeping me connected to my life-long career, colleagues, and gives me a chance to give back to the community. Original Posting: I just completed 35 years as an elementary teacher in the Alhambra School District. I taught all those years at Monterey Highlands School, which did not exist when we were in grammar school. It is located in the hills below Garvey Ave. between Fremont Ave. and Atlantic. My brother's scout troop used to fly kites in those hills. I retired in June , 2002. It is a wonderful feeling to know that I don't have to go back. I will help new teachers and work as a consultant in math (that's a miracle!) education for the district next year. Working on the reunion committe has been a joy. We have had fun and are looking forward to a wonderful party in September. I have been divorced for several years now. I keep busy serving as President of the Alhambra Library Board of Trustees, lay leader of my church, and am active in PEO and AAUW. Looking forward to traveling and spending more time in my garden. |
